‘Affordable and Reliable’ Energy Makes Life Possible
10 years ago, renewable advocates were still able to tap into a massive body of energy infrastructure it could piggyback on. Overcapacity in the power grid swallowed their inconsistencies. Not that this was a good thing as this was not free. It was only that the existing energy industry was used to pay for that overcapacity as a safety option anyhow so that was the easy pickings. Now we are at or over the limits of what’s safe and sustainable. Now we need massive grid upgrades plus storage in order to take the punch renewables deliver to the grid. And that’s very expensive. Naturally, renewables, used to plenty of freebies, does not want to foot the bill. They want more free and people start to feel the impact of all this in earnest. No wonder they rebel.
