Africa: The Place where Claims Renewables are Cheaper Go to Die

I did my first forays into the heart of Africa in the 90ies. At the time, phone calls back to Austria were hard to get and very expensive. So when I called back home just to give an update on where I was and what I did, I kept it short. 20 years later when I developed ties between my then company EconGas and Africa, there were mobile phones everywhere. Landlines were a sham so mobile phones leapfrogged them. Africa never had to go through a massive buildout of landlines. People thought that it would be similar to renewables. But mobile phones were better and cheaper than what they replaced. Renewables are not which is why they don’t work.
