African countries deem EU carbon border levy ‘protectionist’
Protectionist – yeah it sure is. In a sense, the EU tells the rest of the world that either they adopt the same non-sensical policies that the EU saddles itself with or their wares get hit by a tax. Let’s skip the inevitable debate that its EU citizens will end up paying for it through higher prices but the principle of a border adjustment tax is not without merit. I am all for free trade but for that to work you need an even playing field among all members. That is very, very far from being the case.
