No matter how much money one throws after a political campaign, people usually stick with the simple messages they can feel in their own lives. When things get more expensive, you don’t need the upper functions of your cortex. When your money throws less of a punch you feel that. When your job goes away because of regulations that don’t make sense to you, your testosterone levels are elevated. People don’t care about all your virtue signaling even if it wrecks the economy from behind as long as they don’t feel a negative impact. When they do, it falters. Virtue signaling is not free anymore.
