Marcellus/Utica is a huge gas field. Given. But in terms of brute reserve numbers, it is not exactly without peers. There are fields on the Eurasian landmass that would rival that. Where Marcellus stands alone is the conditions under which it is being – or could be – developed. US shale is a combination of sheer entrepreneurialism, subsoil ownership, unrivaled infrastructure, and a drilling subculture that’s without peers. When drillers in other countries wait for orders by often state-owned behemoths, US developers produce a needle cushion. You cant compete with that.
