Amid Challenges, Natural Gas Remains Growing Part of Energy Mix

Some folks start to find out an uncomfortable truth. They despise hydrocarbons so they fight for wind and solar but the more coal they kill, the more gas units spring up all over America. There is plenty of gas and if you cannot do coal anymore, it’s the best solution, quick to set up and easy on the eye as well as on the balance sheet. Plus, it does what those flicker wind and solar assets cannot do – produce power when you need it. Renewables have been a bounty for gas.

According to S&P Global Market Intelligence, 120,498 MW of gas-fired capacity came online between 2008 and Aug. 1, 2019. Twenty percent of that was in 2018 and 2019 alone, and roughly 200 new gas plants…
