As Europe Deindustrializes, Can Economic Suicide Be Avoided?

The term suicide only caters to our addiction to high-pitched drama. Will Europe suffer economically? Oh yes, plenty. And the suffering will take time. There might even be some more local wars or civil strife. I predict the European Union breaking apart as nobody wants to pay for its upkeep anymore. Nations will go back to what they can do best to serve their internal markets as well as some exports into the near abroad. There will be special deals between certain nations but no generalized network of equal nations operating under one set of laws. Europe cannot be reformed or even be saved. But its single nation-states can. The smaller the unit you must find a cure for, the more obvious the cure becomes. And the less hiding room local politicians have.
