One single Starship from SpaceX will dwarf the ISS regarding useable volume and almost any other metric. And it can be brought to orbit in one single shot. It is fully equipped with no problematic joints and fitting problems. One single solid steel hull that can be monitored for micrometeorite impacts far more easily than the lumbering giant. Plus, as the station would be far more compact, there is much less surface area to be protected, which means that shielding essential parts is far easier as well. We did the ISS the way it is not because that’s all we could do at the time. Maybe Elon wants to bring the pieces of the ISS down for museum use.
