Australian green hydrogen project scrapped due to transport costs, pumped hydro on hold

Most people who have looked into hydrogen for more than 10 hours understand very quickly that this stuff is expensive to produce – especially if you need what they call green hydrogen. But if you look into it a lot longer you will understand that production is not the breaking point. Storage and transport are. Pure hydrogen is hard to contain and very dangerous. If you tame it with nitrogen or carbon you either have a still very dangerous product that cannot be used in a consumer market or you need lots of green carbon and that’s not easy to get. The hydrogen bubble deflates before it inflates.

One of Australia’s first commercial green hydrogen projects – next to a large wind farm – has been scrapped because the electrolysers are too far from customers.
