BAE Systems launches methane satellite on SpaceX rocket to monitor oil and gas emissions

MethaneSAT orbits the planet at 525km altitude. That is the distance between DC and Columbus (Ohio). Methane concentration in the air is 1,9 parts per million. This means 0,00019% of the air we breathe. They want to tell us now that they can detect changes in the atmosphere that are so minuscule that every energy professional needs a gas sample in a chromatograph in a laboratory right from orbit. This is like I claim I can identify what a dog had for dinner last evening only from a sniff of the resulting dogshit taken from a distance of hundreds of kilometers. Extraordinary claims need extraordinary evidence and so far we are supposed to take it on faith.
