Battery Reality: There’s Nothing Better Than Lithium-Ion Coming Soon
The more I look at it, the more the current battery crazy looks like a Ponzi scheme to me. Prices are in free fall and billions of new money pouring it while there were no fundamental shifts in technology improvement. We are still at Li Ion and it does not look like it’s going to change any time soon. The problem is, once the subsidies end, many of those producers will go belly up. Besides, they must turn a profit one day. Tesla is a giant battery maker, and they burn money as if they want to double planetary CO2 emissions by themselves. I have seen too many bubbles to jump in excitement just yet.
Clean-energy visionaries have long argued that the world needs a better battery capable of selling skeptical consumers on electric cars and running the grid on renewable power.
