Burning gas to produce electricity is ‘stupid,’ the CEO of power giant Enel says
In a sense, he has a point. Where I don’t follow him is when he says that wind and solar are better suited than gas for electricity generation. They could potentially be if they only were reliable on-demand sources of electricity. But they are not and require backup and that’s why we use so much gas. In a sense, the more wind and solar we get, the more gas we will need. Backup can come from other sources as well of course but gas is fast and easy. Oh, add mobility to gas. Natural-Gas-fueled vehicles are among the cleanest, most reliable, and most economical low emissions choices out there.
