California can’t use all its solar power. That’s a huge problem.

Is that really so hard to understand? Electrictíty is a commodity that cannot be stored easily. It is best used right when it is produced. When other supply lines present flexibility, the electric transmission grid needs to be balanced every second. This means that there is no buffer between supply and demand. When demand is fickle but supply is reliable, this is manageable. But when supply gets fickle, things start to fall apart. Electricity is worth something when it’s produced when someone needs it. Solar and wind can’t do that so they are not only worthless. They must be counterbalanced and this is very expensive. This makes them less than worthless.
