China Can Literally Pull the Plug on US High Tech Manufacturing and Defense Applications
No country should make itself too dependent on the outside, least of all on one single country with dreams of world domination as China has. This has nothing to do with trade. Trade is a bi-directional exchange. This is more like Colbert’s mercantilism. But countries become brittle when they rely on imports only. Part of a countries resilience is that it can cover all its essential functions by itself. This also means being able to produce anything, even if this comes at a premium. COVID showed us that we don’t need a war for this to become a life and death problem.
