China is rehearsing for when it overtakes America
The way things look to the casual observer right now it would indeed support the view that China is winning. I beg to differ. China is way more fragile than first looks suggest. The country goes through a veritable onslaught of different crisis: shoddily built brand new cities that are falling apart as soon as construction ended, environmental disasters of untold proportions, an export-dependent economy that faces a world economy on crutches, and much national hostility of consumer countries that found themselves at the receiving end of Chinese crap during the COVID crisis. Like the late Soviet Union or the German Reich, China puts up a great facade but beneath it’s very fragile. America will work through the stretch of misery it has put itself into because it can trust its entrepreneurial people will pull it out. Try that China.
