China looks to become LNG trading hub

Is it a trading hub or more like a flexibility option China can use at will? Because a true trading hub offers services that are pretty hard to build up in China. China does not have deep and voluminous gas storage capacities and as such they are supply dependent. This means that variabilities in demand need to be evened out through tank capacities which are tiny and also through smart structuring of supply options. Deep underground gas storage would make the system a huge lot more resilient but China’s geology is not amenable to that. I wish them luck but I am also not holding my breath.
