China Puts Economy First, Climate Last
When the Iron Curtain fell in 1989, I was among one of the first Austrians to cross the newly open border. Living just 5km from the border helped a lot as we could literally walk there. What hit us most was that after just some km into Czechoslovakia, the entire land stank. It was the stench of unrefined lignite coal. We did not notice anything on our side. A broken economy has no money for environmental protection. Thats why rich countries among the greenest and cleanest. Courtesy of capitalism. China got that.
