China’s Covid Pivot Is Set to Worsen the Global Energy Crunch

I don’t expect that to be too bad. China’s economic woes have very little to do with COVID. Well, in a way COVID has helped open Pandora’s box but the box was there long before. China is a bubble economy that can only thrive as long as the world keeps buying what China makes. But “made in China” has gone from being a sign of economic production towards insecurity as countries have identified deindustrialization as a problem. And when the world does not want China’s stuff, China falls fast and hard. Forget the Chinese internal market. Without cash from outside it shrivels and dies.
