Climate Change’s Toll On Global Agriculture: A Looming Crisis

That is weird. Data on agricultural yield shows increases in almost all countries during modest warming. That’s what we experienced and we have also seen this in history. Tax collectors in the Roman Empire recorded bumper harvests of red wine from places as far north as York in England. Red wine does not grow easily in York today, suggesting that it was warmer almost 2000 years ago than today. The warmest bits of our planet, the tropics are also the greenest and lushest. Biogas is a tough proposition in Central Europe as the relative cold there gives lower agricultural yields and increases transport cost. The same installation in Nigeria will take feedstock from much less acreage.
