Clock ticks on Algeria
I believe that oil’s future will be quite solid. In that sense, Algeria would not have to worry. Is something else that ails the country. Algeria has missed the train on modernization of its country and the exploitation of the rather large labor force by attracting services and industries for Europe. The population is young, strongly growing, and needs more energy than ever before. Soon, Algeria will need all its energy production for itself. And the structures of the state are sclerotic. Algeria does not need more oil sales, it needs very deep reform away from the economic backwater it is.
