CO2 Coalition: Clean Coal Technology Can Fight Energy Poverty in Africa

It’s quite some while back by now but I remember when the Austrian oil company OMV was forced by activists to disengage from Sudan because of the atrocities in Darfur. Let’s be real here, those atrocities were all very real, and Sudan deserved the strongest kind of international condemnation and action for it. But forcing out a European company that did things by the book just resulted in those fields being grabbed by Chinese operators who don’t give a rats butt about the environment or workers protection. Things were much worse after the OMV exit. Thats throwing out the baby with the bathwater. Coals’ positive consequences are so much better than whatever negative is causes. And if the developed world exists the game, those who care much less will take over. Those activists pressuring western companies are responsible for much suffering in the developing world.
