Coal Freed Humanity and Built the Modern World

There was no modern world before the advent of coal. Individualism was not a thing and the mere mention of equal rights would have gotten you ridicule at best. Look at a historical map and tell me how many democratic republics you would have found on it before the advent of the Industrial Revolution—pretty much none. Coal freed us from feudalism and slavery, oil made us mobile so that we could see more than one village our entire lives, and transport cheap enough for wares to be brought where they were needed in a short time. And Natural Gas will clean this all up.

I was introduced to and met Rudi in Angola when he started to develop his Sub Saharan Africa network. At the time he worked for EconGas/OMV and he tried organizing longterm LNG supply for them under the unlikeliest of all circumstances.
