Convicted Climate Activist: “we need … a different form of democracy”

I grew up in a country with a very dark history when it comes to the rule of the enlightened. Austria just emerged from a totalitarian empire into a fascist state and then was taken over by the Nazis. Each of those regimes was sure that an enlightened form of government was needed to ensure certain outcomes. Not enough with that, until the breakdown of the Soviet bloc, Austria was also surrounded by a system that was supposed to bring eternal bliss. They all have one thing in common – they caused mayhem and suffering on a scale hard to imagine. I learned as a kid that whenever someone claims to have all the answers and everyone needs to abide by them, tyranny looms.

Speaking to World Socialist Web Site, convicted Aussie climate activist Deanna Coco explains why we need a form of democracy which doesn’t involve public elections to solve the climate crisis…

I was introduced to and met Rudi in Angola when he started to develop his Sub Saharan Africa network.
