Copper Mining and Vehicle Electrification

Mining is a high-impact activity no matter how you twist or turn the issue. There will be scars in the landscape after the fact and while it happens you will see it, hear it, feel it, smell it, and taste it. Scraping things out of the ground is way more impactful than drilling holes into it and pumping whatever comes out. Responsible mining would dictate that strict environmental standards would be observed and the traces of mining would be undone later. But that’s costly which is why mining has moved into countries where authorities are happy to go easy on any standards as long as this is worthwhile to them personally. The Green Blob not only requires a lot more mining but it also requires those mining products that leave the deepest scars in people and nature. Green energy sources are the most destructive there is.
