COVID-19 and LNG supply commitments
Come on – thats not COVID-19. The current epic oversupply wave LNG suffers is a result of the LNG world’s past actions (and inactions). For the last 15 years, the LNG industry had suffered shocks and always brushed them off. There was always something that saved the day last minute. Shale kills North America as a destination for LNG – but Asia goes into LNG shortage so its simply rerouted and a longterm problem plugged by short-term developments. The market goes long again and boom, Fukushima saves the day. The market goes long again and ching, China blows the lid off. How many one-hit wonders have we left? LNG has a structural problem and it has grown into a monster over more than a decade. COVID-19 is nothing but a lame excuse.
