Dead Minds All Think Alike

When I was a teenager I stumbled upon a book. The core message hidden within should stick with me for the rest of my life. The book’s title was “The art of being an egoist”. Thats a very free translation but it essentially says that there are 3 kinds of people on Earth. Followers, which make up about 80% of all humanity. Leaders make up about 18% and the wise make up 2%. Followers were described as sheepish fools, leaders as cunning abusers and only the wise had any agency at all as the former needed each other. Today I am nearing retirement and my view of the world has refined a bit. I think the 2% figure is overblown. Those with the courage to stay away from mainstream and alternative streams are exceedingly rare. Way less than 2%. It takes a lot of courage to be your particular stream.

I was introduced to and met Rudi in Angola when he started to develop his Sub Saharan Africa network. At the time he worked for EconGas/OMV and he tried organizing longterm LNG supply for them under the unlikeliest of all circumstances.
