Back to the 19th century with large parts of the population barely eking out a living and a few live in unimaginable wealth. In 1989, when the Iron Curtain fell, I was among the very first to cross over to the other side and see with my own eyes what Socialism does to a country, a people, and a culture. Barely 5 km into Czechoslovakia the smell became repugnant. Strangely, I lived 5 km from the border on the Austrian side and I never noticed it. Everything was a shambles. People looked like ghosts. They were nice but clearly shellshocked. Wanna sample it – go live in Venezuela under conditions for locals for a year. Let’s see how much socialism remains inside you after that.
