Does LNG Have a China Problem?
Calling it “China problem” is not doing the problem justice. It’s way more than that. LNG was set to go bonkers before shale as North America was seen as the El Dorado. Then shale killed that. Then Fukushima saved the day by soaking up excess LNG and sending Asia int a feeding frenzy. But this eventually abated as well and then, when we thought that our past sins will take its due, China sucked the market dry. LNG developers think that there will always be something that saves their skin. But one day the market bites back. There is just so many miracles to be pulled. There would be one more – bigger than all others. Marketing LNG as a vehicle fuel. But this one requires the LNG players to get active in real marketing. Not something they are good at.
