Dutch Boskalis chooses biofuel over LNG
I will assume that with Biofuel they mean ethanol or biodiesel. This is throwing out the baby with the bathwater. Why? Because biodiesel is still a liquid fuel and it causes just as many particulates and NOx as normal diesel does. But there is worse. The organic compounds in biodiesel form very potent toxins when exposed to high pressure, high-temperature combustion like Dioxin. Those toxins get into the environment as well. Normal diesel does not cause those compounds. So, with biodiesel, Boskalis gets to reduce their CO2 count but spews strong toxins into the air. Wow …
Dutch dredging company Boskalis said on Tuesday it will be boosting the use of biofuels to power its fleet of vessels as the company is looking to reduce emissions. “Various sea trials conducted by Boskalis have shown that sustainable biofuels lead to an impressive reduction in CO2 emissions of up to 90% compared to fossil fuels, and are also much more effective than alternatives such as liquefied natural gas (LNG),” the dredging company said in its statement.
