Electric cars and heat pumps seem destined to make us freeze

When I was a kid, I was on the nerdy side. I grew up in the sticks which means that I often was the weirdo of the bunch. One thing that did mushroom was growing an interest in any future technology. This means that more than 40 years in the past, solar energy, wind energy also Electric Vehicles, and nuclear fusion were all things I knew about and I was keen on. What I did not have at the time were healthy economic reflexes. Costs were immaterial to me and I believed. I believe in tech and progress and the betterment of humanity through development. But things do have a price and there are also limits set in physics that often hamper the sweet dreams we have. Heat pumps are a bad idea when there is not much heat to pump and building power consumers while the grid gets no love is a recipe for disaster.
