European grids double down on hydrogen network plan
I guess today’s Network Operators don’t care about the increased maintenance that will fall on them in a few years. Why? Because hydrogen is not a nice gas. Those pipelines have been built for transporting Natural gas which is non-corrosive and non-toxic. Nice and cuddly when compared to other forms of energy. Hydrogen is very aggressive and will embrittle anything. Yes, your steel pipes too. They will swell and one day, one will leak. Imagine a high-pressure pipe leaking a highly explosive gas.
