European Power Prices Surge as Costly Gas Plugs Wind Deficit

The more wind and solar you install, the more you depend on Natural Gas. Something needs to be able to deliver electricity when the wind does not blow and the Sun does not shine. Countries like my own Austria with massive hydropower can somehow deal with that. It’s very expensive and wasteful but at least the grid won’t go down too many times and not for too long. But such countries are rare. Countries like Germany depend entirely on thermal power and need to suckle on their neighbor’s overcapacities which in turn drives prices up. Time to cut connections at the borders.
