EU’s new list of energy projects includes 32 gas facilities
55 billion in subsidies for fossil fuels in the EU. And if you look into the report it’s mainly lower taxes. Let’s get this straight – renewable energy gets cash that it would not have gotten from the market. That’s a subsidy. Its money in hand. Some forms of fossil energy get lower tax rates. They don’t get cash. They still pay taxes, just a little less than the maximum rate. But they pay taxes. That’s not a subsidy. A subsidy is a payment from a public body towards someone who cannot get this cash in the market. Lower taxes are incentives for investment, but they are no subsidy. Its time we call those liars out.Its time we measured everything by the same stick. Fossil fuels are contributors to the public good – they give. Renewables are defilers of the public good – they take.
