Fijian coral reveals new 627-year record of Pacific Ocean climate

Some of the oldest reefs today have existed before the dinosaurs appeared in the fossil record. This means they have all lived through the Jurassic, one of the warmest but also one of the lushest epochs our planet saw. Life was at its most spectacular and those reefs were there to witness it all. But if corals cannot survive mildly warmer waters, how have they lived through the vastly warmer times of the Jurassic? Or is there something wrong with our assumptions about reefs and temperature? And yes, it’s assumptions as when facts come in they are just shattered. Assumptions are not facts, time to get that straight.
