France Increases State Funding for Advanced Nuclear R&D Project

Strangely, France’s love affair with state-sponsored dirigisme and protectionism might give it an advantage over its European peers in the coming economic malaise. Make no mistake – state dirigisme is a horrible thing in a free and thriving market as state-sponsored projects tend to be unwieldy and clunky and most of all wasteful. They also can’t see when they go in the wrong direction. But in an environment where companies are about as entrepreneurial as a rock in the desert, this might be an advantage. We are in times of crisis, and our structures are hopelessly broken. France will make mistakes but when it acts, it does so more decisively than others.
