In 2009 I met with a friend of mine who happens to be my go-to contact if I needed to know anything upstream. He was an old pair of hands for the industry close to retirement and has seen all the ups and downs of the business. We talked about Africa with a map at hand and he told me that those waters from Guinea up to Mauretania should be the next grand frontier of oil and gas. I asked him how he knew. He told me it just made sense when he looked at the geology. The old man had the nose for oil and gas.
