Gas flaring persists as 2020 deadline nears
282 billion scf – that sounds a lot. However, it’s a surprisingly small number for anyone who has taken a flight over the Niger delta once. There are flares everywhere and it’s hard to believe that its only such a small amount. It must be multiples for real. And it won’t end easily. I met with the Minister of State for Petroleum Resources Mr. Ajumogobia in 2010 and flaring was one of 3 top issues on his list – I guess its much the same now. This will end when the easy money ends.
A significant amount of natural gas produced in the country is still being wasted despite many deadlines set by the government to end it.
