German coal phaseout… lasted only 8 days
Yes, the phaseout was too quick and looked very chaotic. But if that would be the only problem, it could be fixed. The true problem is that you cannot simply replace 1 MW stable power production with 1 MW of unreliable production. Intermittent wind and solar make storage necessary which adds costs and complexity. Costs that are never properly attributed as they should be. It will take time for the reality of this to sink in as consumers are artificially shielded from the worst effects – for now. Some do enjoy the full effects already now and they don’t look happy.
