German logistics firm plans to have 20% of its fleet fueled by LNG in 2025
Just to get a feeling for the dimensions involved. If all naval vessels converted to LNG as a fuel overnight, we would not have enough LNG production capacity in place to fuel them all. But vessels, once they do their thing, keep doing that for decades so replacement rates are low. By contrast, if one takes road diesel consumption by trucking in the EU alone, it dwarfs global shipping. And tracks are being replaced in years instead of decades. Give it some years and we won’t have enough LNG to fuel them all.
