Germany could have a lot more of the clean gas and a lot less of the dirty coal now if they had gone a more sensible policy towards renewables. Forcing out of nuclear and going into uncharted waters might prove deadly for a developed economy that Germany is. And it serves as a potent warning to other industrial nations. Germany’s phasing out of coal-fired power stations could be delayed beyond 2038 if the deadline creates problems for the security of electricity supply, a senior legislator in Chancellor Angela Merkel’s party said.
