Germany is a Black Hole for energy, sucking half the continent dry of electricity when it’s in shortfall and swamping the continent with unsellable power when wind and solar overproduce. Germany’s policymakers knew fully well that building the balancing capacity their wind and solar buildout really needed would have produced astronomical costs and would have pushed voters to reconsider much earlier. They could not risk that as their green projects also amounted to a wonderful siphon of public funds for themselves. Norway’s cutting off is the beginning of the unraveling of the European power market.
