Grid battery cost issue storm looms in Massachusetts

Looking at this without looking at the reasons why this is even necessary is dishonest at best. Because conventional energy sources such as stored hydro or thermal energy don’t need this grid battery. Their storage is the fuel they use. With thermal, the fuel sits in a tank or in a heap of stuff, waiting for us to need it to release its energy content. In essence, with conventional fuels, you get the storage for either free or very cheap. The fuel you burn already contains those costs. But wind or solar cannot do that. They produce their energy when they do, when the weather dictates it, not when we need it. And there is one thing you don’t want to do with electricity – store it. Because thats very expensive. Only wind and solar need this so it’s them who should bear the cost – alone.
