Halliburton, Coterra launch first fully automated hydraulic fracturing program

Who said that innovation is dead on the oil patch? The truth is that innovation does not happen equally all over the oil patch. There is a lot in the US as it’s there where shale dominates. And shale requires a bit more than just sticking your drill deep into Earth’s bowels and waiting for the goods to come up. Shale is more like farming than conventional oil drilling. You need to work your patch repeatedly and use experience and smarts to do so. Eventually, much of the shale oil operation will go robotic. The US is the most drilled real estate on the planet. Like a pincushion. And much of the drilling data is publicly available. A goldmine for data scientists.
