They are not oblivious. They just don’t give a damn. They must know what a scam it is but as they are at the receiving end of it and also as they have plenty of no-brain voters who think the world is going to end if the scam is not being entertained, they just pick it up and run with it. A politician does not have the luxury of a true opinion or a spine. They must do what gets them elected and what keeps them in office. Once someone decides to go into politics, all pretense of ethics, good morals, honesty, and decency must be thrown overboard immediately. You must run with whatever stupid crap the tides of time decide to throw your way.
