Thats not an insane comparison. Eventually, people smell it when a potential leader sells them for fools. We had those by the wagonload already. And there will be more. Just look at Germany and how Merkl’s legacy goes down the drain faster than windmills rotate in a storm. Most politicians get used to the good life very fast and they cannot even imagine what the life of a normal person is like once they are there. They become detached and arrogant and like the smell of their own farts. People smell it and eventually – when the spell is broken – kick them to the curb.
