It takes big energy to back up wind and solar
It’s a simple fact that all advocates for wind and solar have problems with. Their systems cannot possibly be sustainable without backup. And thats either fossil backup or a battery. Fossil backup systems tend to be much cheaper than batteries. Consider this – running a second set of power generation assets with all the bells and whistles is cheaper than batteries – this gives you some ideas on battery cost. Oh yes, this second set of fossil backup could easily run the primary energy demand without any backup required.
