Japanese firms seek domestic offshore gas
Japan sure could do with some domestic energy sources. The country has been a juggernaut in the LNG world since before I even knew that LNG exists. I am pretty sure they did not enjoy this position very much as they were also known to pay the highest prices at any time. Thats not always true but often enough. Japan literally sits on a mountain of methane hydrates off its coasts. Enough clean energy to power the country for centuries. It is still a lot cheaper to import expensive LNG rather than mine methane hydrate. That was once true for shale. What needs to be done for Hydrates to have their shale moment.
