Japan’s stressed power grid faces new test with Arctic blast on way
Some will no doubt brush this off as a one-off event. But next winter is going to be worse. We are in a new Solar Minimum. I don’t know how long this one is going to last but according to people who know better than I do, it’s at a minimum of 5 years – potentially multiples of that. Many countries and regions suffer this now and if they do, their power grids need urgent attention. Relentless wind and solar expansion has thinned the capacity to take shocks. It needs to be rebuilt and the cost tallied on top of the RE bill.
