Jones Act waiver floated as a stimulus for U.S. oil companies
It’s hard to compete with South Korea in ship-building those days. That being said, when South Korea started out some decades ago, they lagged far behind the behemoths of the time. So, one can come out from the back in order to rout the industry. Protectionist policies don’t help here – all they do is cement the status quo. US shipbuilding needs to innovate, take a leaf from the South Koreans. Automation will make crewing a lot cheaper, cheap Natural Gas makes building anything cheaper and a rejuvenated industrial base could provide economies of attraction that many would not be able to match. But I am not a shipbuilder. I just know that competition brings out the best in us. Jones Act culls competition. As such its culls the American spirit.
