Kremlin: No decision yet on repair of Nord Stream gas pipelines

Even if North Stream could be repaired, I don’t think Putin and Gazprom are keen on it. Gazprom has built a Potemkin village of still cheap Russian gas that would always be a mighty money spinner for the regime but the reality is far from this. The old fields are going away, and anything from Yamal is not cheap at all. Add in the cost of new pipes from Yamal to Europe and the cost of North Stream and this might be a money loser for Russia. But how to tell Russians and everyone else that they made the wrong call? Better to leave the pipes as they are and create an impression that outside enemies don’t want Russia to succeed. Many will buy it.
